Leading exchange BSE announced on Tuesday that its board has appointed SS Mundra, a director of public interest, as the exchange’s chairman.

Mr. Mundra will replace Judge Vikramajit Sen.

“We are hereby informed that on Monday the Company’s Board of Directors considered and approved the appointment of SS Mundra, Director of Public Interest, as Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors, subject to Sebi’s approval,” BSE said in a regulatory filing with NSE .

Mr Mundra retired in July 2017 after three years as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Previously, he was Chairman and Managing Director of Bank of Baroda, where he retired in July 2014.

In a banking career spanning more than four decades, Mr. Mundra has held a number of key positions including Executive Director of Union Bank of India, Chief Executive of Bank of Baroda (European Operations).

He also served as RBI’s nominee on the Financial Stability Board (G20 Forum) and its various committees. He was also Vice-Chair of the OECD’s International Network on Financial Education.

Prior to joining RBI, he served on the boards of several multidimensional companies including Clearing Corporation of India Ltd and Central Depository Services (India) Ltd (CDSL).
