India’s second-biggest telecoms operator Bharti Airtel on Tuesday reported a more than two-fold increase in its consolidated net profit to £2,008 million for the March quarter.

Net profit was ₹759 crore in the same period last year.

Airtel’s operating income increased 22.3% to ₹31,500 billion in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021-22 compared to 25,747 crore in the corresponding period last year.

For full year FY22, the Sunil Mittal-led telecoms company posted a net profit of £4,255 billion compared to a loss of £15,084 billion in the previous financial year (FY21).

Bharti Airtel reported revenue of ₹116,547 billion for FY22 compared to ₹100,616 billion in the previous fiscal year. This resulted in revenue growth of about 16% for the full year.

Gopal Vittal, CEO, India and South Asia, Bharti Airtel, exuded optimism about the opportunities in the coming years, saying the company is “well positioned” for three reasons.

“First, our ability to consistently execute a simple strategy, attract quality customers and give them the best experience. Second, our future-proof business model with massive investments in both infrastructure and digital capabilities,” he said.

He also highlighted the company’s financial prudence, backed by its strong focus on corporate governance, as a strong point.
