Airbnb, an online marketplace for accommodation – mainly homestays for vacation rentals – and tourism activities, has opened a technology hub in Bengaluru as part of its expansion efforts in India.

“India is an incredibly important market for Airbnb. The opening of this technology hub will spur our ongoing investments in the country,” said Nathan Blecharczyk, Airbnb co-founder and chief strategy officer.

“The technology center will strengthen our ability to serve our global community while providing new opportunities for talented local engineers and technology specialists,” he added.

“Initially, the tech hub will employ a few hundred technicians,” the company said in a press release.
