Agricultural, processed food exports up 23% pc in April-January

Agricultural and processed food exports grew more than 23% to $19.7 billion in April-January 2021-22 compared to the same period last year, the Commerce Department said on Monday.

Exports were $15.97 billion in the 10-month period a year ago.

Rice export was the top forex earner at $7.7 billion during the period, it said.

Wheat shipments also rose to $1.74 billion during the period.

Exports of meat, dairy and poultry products rose more than 13% to US$3.40 billion during the 10-month period of the current fiscal year.

“We remain focused on building infrastructure to increase exports by focusing on clusters in cooperation with state governments, keeping in mind the Agricultural Export Policy 2018 target,” said M. Angamuthu, Chairman of APEDA.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Agency (APEDA) reports to the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
