Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals released an emotional tweet in Shane Warne’s memory after “rock star” Ravindra Jadeja passed his second Test hundred in India’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali on Saturday.

Rajasthan Royals went to their official Twitter handle and wrote: “100* out of 160. Rockstar Jadeja. You made him proud.” It was Warne who bestowed the Rockstar title on Jadeja in 2008 when the duo were part of the Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

left handed Jadeja was undefeated at 102 and Ashwin, who earned 61, added 130 for his partnership, while India hit 468 for seven at lunch on day two. A minute’s silence was held before the game began for Australian greats Rod Marsh and Shane Warne, who died on Friday.

The Indian batters, who went on to play 357/6, also wore black armbands as a mark of respect for Marsh and Warne. The batters continued to pile on runs against the hapless Sri Lankan bowlers on a docile pitch.

Jadeja, who captained Rajasthan Royals under Warnes in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, also tweeted to express his sadness.

“Absolutely shocked to hear from Shane Warne. A great statesman of our game. May God bless his soul and my condolences to his loved ones,” Jadeja tweeted.

“Then I didn’t know what rock star meant. Little did I know when I first met Shane Warne that he was such a great bowler in Test cricket. He used to call me ‘rock star’ and I wondered if I didn’t sing or do anything that deserved to be called a rock star,” Jadeja recalled his first reaction when he heard “rock star”.

“I was just asking a friend of mine why he calls me a rock star. He said that maybe because you put too much zinc on your face (smiles), I kept working hard on my game and kept improving my skills, be it bowling or batting,” he had said.
